Be Your Own Registered Agent › Keep a service?
Should I keep a registered agent service?
Keep one if the trade-offs below cost you more than $149 a year. Mainstay Filing is that price, flat. Doing it yourself has no provider fee.
| Be your own agent | A service | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | No provider fee | $149 a year with Mainstay Filing |
| Your address | On the public record | The service’s address is on the filing |
| Availability | You must be at the address in business hours | Papers are received for you; service of process is scanned and uploaded the same business day at no fee. |
| If you move | File a change of agent (a state fee in most states) | The service’s address stays the same |
The mail the agent does not handle
The registered agent address is not a business mailing address and cannot stand in for one, for example for bank verification. The first three government mailings a year are scanned free; after that a per-piece fee applies.
