Can You Be Your Own Registered Agent in Pennsylvania? The State Wants a Registered Office
Pennsylvania does not require a registered agent. It requires a registered office, which has to be an actual Pennsylvania street address. Check with the Pennsylvania Secretary of State.
The Pennsylvania rule
Who can serve: Pennsylvania does not require a registered agent. Every LLC keeps a registered office instead: an actual street address in Pennsylvania, or a Commercial Registered Office Provider named in its place by a company without a Pennsylvania address.
The address: The address has to be an actual street address or rural route box number in Pennsylvania. A P.O. box alone is not accepted.
Whether the LLC itself can be named is not settled by our sheet; check with the Pennsylvania Secretary of State. Changing agents in Pennsylvania costs $5. Source: 15 Pa.C.S. § 8825, checked October 20, 2026.
The trade-offs
- Your Pennsylvania address goes on the public filing.
- Papers are handed to you at that address, so you need to be there when the state’s rule says.
- If you move, you file a change of agent ($5 in Pennsylvania).
If you would rather not
Mainstay Filing is $149 a year for registered agent service in Pennsylvania, the same at renewal. Service of process is scanned and uploaded the same business day at no fee.
